Tiger Prawns Green Chilly Masala

Are you bored of having the same old prawn curries/chilly/fry? Most Indian prawn recipes turn out to be red or yellow curries. If you use tomatoes and red chillies you have a red prawn curry; if you use coconut and turmeric you get a yellow one. But green chilli prawn is a recipe in its own league. This curry is green in colour and that is not very commonly seen in the Indian cuisine. Green chilli prawns uses no red chilli powder or tomatoes. Instead plenty of green chillies are used in this prawn curry to make it spicy. Apart from that, green chilli prawns also contain some fresh pudhina (mint) and coriander leaves which are blend to make a smooth paste. These herbs contribute to the colour of green chilli prawns. This dish tastes better after 4-5 hours of preparation. Its very easy and you will love this recipe always. So go try it on :P Enjoy! :)

    • 1/2 Kg Tiger Prawns medium (Clean and marinate along tumaric and salt for 15 mins)

    Green paste ( Grind the below into fine smooth paste ) :

    • Coriander 3 fist full [add according to your preference]
    • 1 small tbsp Ajwain
    • 6 green chillies [the green chilli which I used were very spicy, you can use more if you want according to your spice prefernce]
    • 1 fist full Mint leaves [add according to your preference]
    • 6 flakes of garlic
    • 1 tbsp chopped ginger
    • 1 lemon juice

    For Frying :

    • 2 medium onions finely chopped
    • 2 tbsp chopped garlic & ginger
    • Salt to taste
    • 1-2 tbsp coconut oil

    ( Note: Tsp (Teaspoons) is different from Tbsp (Tablespoons)., 1 Tablespoon = 3 Teaspoons.)

    Clean the Tiger prawns.

    Marinate the cleaned prawns in turmaric and salt for 15 minutes.

    While the prawn is getting marinated prepare for the green masala.

    Heat 1tbsp oil in a deep bottomed pan. Fry the chopped garlic and ginger, add the onions and fry till golden brown.

    Whem the onions have fried golden brown, add the marinated prawns.

    • When the prawns start to curl after 5 mins, add the green masala paste.
    • Avoid adding water. As prawns itself leaves the water while frying which is enough for the content to get cooked.
    • Toss the green masala well along the prawns and stir fry well in medium flame.
    • You can keep the flame medium and stir well if you want a dry dish. 
    • When the green masala and prawns have cooked well, switch off the flame.
    • Serve hot along the meals. Enjoy !

    [Note: This recipe tastes best after 4-6 hour of preparation. You can also have it the next day!]
