Spicy Pan Fried Garlic Sardines

Sardines also known as Pedve/Pedi /Tarle in konkani, is a popular and favorite fish of Mangaloreans. Sardines is my favorite fish right from my childhood. They are abundantly in coastal regions of South Canara and North Canara. Daily morning the fishmongers bring heap of Sardine in baskets and would sell them in market or even door to door. Sardines are tasty and packed with loads of healthy nutrients.They are a great source of vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, calcium and phosphorus. In this recipe, I have Pan fried Sardine with coconut oil. The Sardine fried in coconut oil is flavorful and aromatic. This recipe is easy to prepare and tastes great with boiled rice and fish Curry combination. Include the Sardine in your diet and stay healthy..Enjoy!

    • Sardine Fish 1 kg clean
    • Salt to taste
    • 3-5 tbsp coconut oil batchwise

    Preparation of Garlic ( Grind all ingredients to smooth paste )
    Chilli Paste :

    • 25 byadagi red chilli
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    • 1 tbsp rice flour
    • 1 tbsp corn flour
    • Small tamarind ball
    • 12-15 garlic cloves
  • Spicy Pan Fried Garlic Sardines Method-1

    1) Wash and clean the fish. Make gashes on both sides of Sardine.
    2) Marinate the Sardine with Garlic Chilli Paste. Keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
    3) Heat 3-5 tbsp coconut oil in Pan. Fry the fish on both sides till its Crispy. (Let the flame be at low to medium heat).
    4) Serve the Crispy fried garlic Sardine along lemon wedges.
