Deep Fried Crispy Silver Fish | Bolanjir Thalale ( Konkani )

Silver Fish fry is very simple and quick. For this fry masala, the aroma of the Asafoetida along with Curry leaves gives a flavorful taste. Most will love it, as you can also have it along sambar/dal combo with boiled rice. Its very crispy and can be stored in air tight dry container and kept for a week. I love the Bolanjir fry especially Rava Fry.

    • Silver Fish (Bolanjir - Konkani) cleaned - 50 fish medium (size depending on availability during season)
    • Salt as required
    • Hing powder (Asafoetida)
    • 1 tbsp corn powder
    • 5 strands chopped Curry leaves

    Prepare the following Red chilli paste :

    • 25 byadagi red chilli soaked 10-15 mins in warm water before grinding
    • Small marble size tamarind

    1. Take around 3-4 tbsp ground red chilli paste. Add salt and Hing. Add corn powder. Mix well. Add water if required for paste.

    2. Add the cleaned Silver Fish to the paste. Mix well and apply to the fish. Marinate for 10 mins.

    3. Heat 1/2 cup coconut oil in pan. Fry the fish 2-3 mins. Flip the later on and fry other side.

    4. Add a tbsp of chopped Curry leaves for each batch frying. Mix gently and fry for another 1-2 minutes.

    5. When done serve along meals or as a side dish. Fish tastes best when fried along fresh Curry leaves. If you need more Crispy fish you need to fry for 3-5 each side under low to medium flame.
